The design of the drainage system is a major factor in considering the selection and installation of pergola, especially in areas where rainfall is frequent. An effective drainage system not only extends the life of your pergola, it also protects the furniture and floor beneath. Below, we will explain in detail how AlunoTec® pergola drainage systems work.

1. Rainwater Harvesting
Pergola roofs usually consist of adjustable louvers. These louvers are designed with a grooved structure so that when it rains, rainwater will naturally fall on the louvers and flow along these grooves. The design of the louvers ensures that rainwater is directed to specific drainage paths rather than splashing down randomly, preventing water from disturbing the space below pergola.
2. Function of the Gutter
Rainwater running down the grooves in the louvers is directed to the gutters. Gutters are usually located at the edges of the pergola, next to the beams, and their main function is to collect and store the rainwater running off the louvers. This step is crucial as it prevents the rainwater from flowing around and protects the space underneath the pergola.
3. Drainage Posts
Rainwater in the gutter is directed to the inside of the pergola's post through a connected drainage system. Most pergola drainage systems utilize PVC pipe, a lightweight and durable material suitable for long term use, which is usually hidden inside the post and does not detract from the overall aesthetics of the pergola. Rainwater passes through the post and eventually exits at the bottom.
Besides that, AlunoTec® pergola's drainage system has an advantage - the separation of water and electricity in the post.
This design makes the electric pergola more convenient and safe to use. By strictly separating the electric system from the drainage system, the risk of rainwater entering the electric components is avoided, ensuring the safe operation of the electric system. This safe design not only improves the comfort of use, but also provides more peace of mind for the user.
